The Continuing Education Department at SODC is currently accepting registrations for fall 2017 and winter 2018 RDH courses. Celebrating 13 years of Excellence in Dental Hygiene Education, the Southern Ontario College has been offering Continuing Education portfolio courses designed to assist Dental Hygienists in satisfying their annual 25 hour requirement to maintain their CDHO registration. Orthodontics Level I & II

Participants: RDH, RRDH

Date: September 22 - 24, 2017 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Course Goal:

The participant will gain a foundational understanding of common orthodontic practices and procedures.  Learning will be reinforced though application of skills in a hands-on clinical environment.  

Course Objectives:

Orthodontics Level I:  Introductory Orthodontic Course for the Dental Hygienist (One day course)

  • The participant will gain knowledge to practice in an orthodontic office or a dental office offering orthodontic services.  Topics covered include orthodontic theory, malocclusions, diagnostic records for treatment planning and current orthodontic procedures including direct orthodontic bonding and bracket/band positioning, with hands-on practice.

Orthodontics Level II:  Advanced Orthodontic Course for the Dental Hygienist (Two day course)

  • Level I is a pre-requisite for Level II (some exceptions apply).
  • Level II of this course will provide higher education and clinical practice in orthodontics and more advanced instruction in bracket placement and orthodontic appliances. The clinical component will focus on orthodontic procedures (including fabrication of fixed lingual retainers, placement of archwires, placement of archwire bends, Invisalign treatment including impression taking and bonding/and removal of attachments, deband protocal (removal of braces) and exposure to various functional appliances).

Orthodontics Level I - $450.00

Orthodontics Level II - $750.00

DMD as he shares his passion and expertise on Laser Dentistry and its effective implementation designed to enhance your Dental Hygiene Practice. Dr Labrecque began utilizing soft tissue laser early in his clinical practice and has achieved great clinical outcomes. His study, training and practical experience make him a world class authority in Laser Technology. This specialization in Laser Dentistry has helped facilitate the certification of numerous Dental Health Professionals.  

 COURSE OBJECTIVES

Participants who complete this course will receive certification recognized by the World Clinical Laser and Imaging Institute (WCLI), an institute internationally recognized as a leader in laser education.  Attendees will gain full understanding of the use of lasers and learn how to effectively incorporate laser treatment protocols in their Dental Hygiene Practice.
