The Southern Ontario Dental College is a post-secondary Educational Institution that provides excellence in Dental Education. It is a fully licensed and accredited College governed by the following regulatory bodies:

NDHCB: National Dental Hygiene Certification Board
NDAEB- National Dental Assisting Examining Board
The College adheres to the rules and regulations, policies and procedures as outlined by the above Regulatory Bodies, Organizations and the Private Career Colleges Act 2005.
The Southern Ontario Dental College is designated as an internationally recognized College and has been designated as an OSAP approved college. SODC presently offers Programs in Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting Levels I & II.
The College has been in operation since 2004 offering courses in Radiography, Pharmacology, Human Pathology & Patho-Physiology, Oral Facial Anatomy, Research & Statistics, Educational theory, Periodontology, Oral Pathology, Biomaterials, Oral Microbiology and Dental Hygiene Process of Care, Evidence Based Practice, just to name a few.
Further to their academic studies, students are provided with opportunities to apply their learning in our laboratory facilities and state of the art Clinic area. Students are actively involved in courses that encapsulate Professional Jurisprudence, Health Informatics, Orthodontics, Community practice and Inter-professional practices. The College services over 680 clients in its clinic.
SODC boasts a 99% graduation rate and a 95% employment rate. In comparison to other Community and Private Career Colleges, we are a cut above by offering the preparation course for the Board Exam, multiple opportunities for clinic supplemental extra practice and tutoring to ensure student success and high academic achievement rates.
Our Staff and Faculty are well qualified and have extensive experience in providing best practices and effective implementation strategies to ensure that students meet with success and develop academically, socially and emotionally.
Over the years SODC (formerly known as ODEI) has successfully delivered Continuing Education courses for Dental Health professionals from across Canada.
The Administrative Staff and Faculty pride themselves on offering a well-organized, well- disciplined environment within which Staff, Faculty and Students feel safe developing skills that will help them in their profession. Students are encouraged to work independently and inter and intra professionally to achieve success.
At SODC we all work together to create an atmosphere of camaraderie and trust among all stakeholders of the College community and the greater community which it serves. To build upon existing partnerships, we are developing new partnerships with surrounding elementary schools, secondary schools, colleges, universities, hospitals and long-term care facilities.
As part of the SODC curriculum, Students have the opportunity to provide dental hygiene services within the local and extended community. These unique experiences foster Student growth in their roles as educators, health promoters, change agents, and client advocates. Further to this, these community events help address the growing health disparities found within our community by providing care to those in the greatest need. This year alone, our Students along with their Instructors have visited Alexander Place in Waterdown, CHOICES Association in Hamilton, The Good Shepherd Venture Center, The Ray of Hope in Kitchener, and St. Lawrence Catholic Elementary School in Hamilton. SODC hosted a clinic for women from the Good Shepherd Women’s Services, and has upcoming community outreach visits planned for St. Elizabeth’s Retirement Villa.
Community outreach activities provide opportunities for Students to practice the Dental Hygiene Process of Care in diverse settings. Whether it be presenting oral hygiene instruction, discussing nutrition, caries risk, benefits of sports guards, risks of smoking and e-cigarette use, risks of oral piercings to Students in a school setting, or providing care including screening for dental disease, and scaling in non-traditional settings, the SODC Student is well prepared for work within the Dental Community upon completion of the program.
Dr. Estrabillo is the founder of an Organization known as “Global Smile International.” It addresses Dental Health Care in countries throughout the world that are unable to provide support for communities in need. We will be offering our students the opportunity to be a part of these teams.
We feel that it is critical for us to be able to provide our students with every opportunity to meet with success through tutoring, mentoring and guidance initiatives.
Most importantly it is our commitment to ensure that no student be turned away due to financial difficulty. Although we have put measures in place to provide students with financial assistance through our team of Financial Aid individuals who work with the students and their families to access monies for tuition through a number of financial organizations, the most important funding for tuition would be through OSAP. We are presently an OSAP approved and Designated College.
Our students come to us from all over Canada and abroad, from a wide range of backgrounds: from those who come to us directly from graduating high school, to others who have University degrees looking for a second career opportunity. Most, if not all, require assistance to be able to realize their dreams of a career in Dental Hygiene.
We are proud to be in partnership with Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, British Columbia.
Our goal is to continue to grow and provide excellence in Dental Health Care. We are now registered to offer the Dental Assisting Level I & II Program. As we move forward, we are presently developing programs in the areas of:
- Office Administration: Health Services
These additional programs will compliment the existing programs and will create a strong Educational Facility specializing in careers related to Oral Health Care.
At Southern Ontario Dental College we are very excited about moving forward with our team of dedicated, well educated, experienced faculty and administrative staff.
As Dean and President of the Southern Ontario Dental College (formerly Ontario Dental Education Institute), I would like to share that it is an exciting time at the College as we continue to grow and expand. We have many plans for the future of the College and would love to have you be part of our journey.
You may ask, what sets SODC apart from other Dental Hygiene schools? At SODC Students have access to state-of-the-art technology, located on premises. The College is situated within a building that houses a Dental Office and Dental Laboratory as well, this allows SODC Students to experience real-life situations. Students have the opportunity to observe live dental procedures and address any questions they may have. This practice aids in the learning process.
The Staff and Faculty at SODC are all highly experienced in their field, and they continue to engage in lifelong learning. The faculty members are passionate and dedicated.
We at SODC believe in providing Students with quality education and fostering their leadership within the community. I, along with all the Staff and Faculty at SODC look forward to helping you on your path to becoming a successful Dental Hygienist.
