What makes SODC Different?
Being in a facility with a dental office and a dental lab allows students to experience what it is like working in the field. Students also receive the opportunity to watch live procedures and ask questions about them, aiding in the learning process. The staff at SODC are all experienced in the field, and they continue to expand their knowledge of upcoming technology. Through community courses, SODC encourages students to foster their leadership within the community, creating well-rounded professionals.
Here's what some other students have to say:"As an out of province student looking for a great school to attend, SODC admissions staff definitely had an impact on my decision. They made the admissions process very easy and lent a hand each step of the way. Their voices, through telephone conversations, I knew were genuine and made me feel that the school would be a place I would have the support to get a great education. I would recommend SODC to any student that wants an amazing education in exchange for dedication and commitment. SODC is a school that proved to me personally that they care. I had an amazing experience and made friends, not only with my classmates but with faculty that will last a lifetime." Barb H., Newfoundland"At SODC the thoroughness of the clinical training - from instrumentation to proper positioning and all the theory behind it - has helped me to become an efficient DH, who enjoys working in the dental field. This knowledge, together with having dual citizenship and speaking German fluently, enabled me to find full time employment as a RDH in a very upscale dental office in Germany." Nicole L., Hamilton, currently working in Germany"Attending school outside of Alberta was one of the most exciting experiences of my life. The small class sizes allowed for lifelong friendships to me made with my classmates as well as with the members of the faculty. SODC helped me achieve my dream of being a Registered Dental Hygienist in Alberta and I will always be grateful for the knowledge and skills I have attained from my time at SODC." Janel M., Alberta"The faculty are very supportive, knowledgeable, and determined to meet the student goals. I felt great support from not only the faculty, but the staff as well. No matter what challenges may come your way, there is always a way to get through them with great support." Jillian C., Ontario"What I liked best about the SODC program was the clinical aspect. I actually wished clinic was run every single day for the last two semesters. Getting the hands-on experience and being able to interact with clients during the amount of time we spent in the clinic and watching them improve and maintain their oral health was so empowering. I recommend and have already referred people to SODC and would do it over and over again." Maria D., Hamilton"I started at a Dental Hygiene school that unfortunately closed its doors on me. However, when I started searching for another school to complete my goal to become a Dental Hygienist, SODC seemed like the right fit for me. One of the things I love to do as a Registered Dental Hygienist is educating clients. Improving someone's life through education provides them with empowerment and that is a great feeling. SODC allowed me to gain the knowledge, ability, and confidence to do this in my career." Mandy G., London"What initially drew me to SODC was that it was an accredited program and was in a location that was ideal for me to travel too daily for school. The reason I chose to attend SODC was the friendly staff and faculty and the open and welcome feeling I received when I first visited the school. After graduating from SODC I have kept connected threw email. Whenever there is a job posting in the area they will send out an email with details regarding the job. Also they are always encouraging us to email or phone them to keep connected with them. They love to hear how their grads are doing and are there to help you even after you have completed the program." Melissa C., Brampton"The best thing about the SODC program was the friends I made! It’s really sad not to be with them anymore but we have visits planned!! I also feel that I felt really prepared for clinic and work with patients with special circumstances and conditions, as well as the ability to discuss oral hygiene recommendations. I think my employer would agree :) There are new strict infection control guidelines going on here as well so SODC definitely prepared me for that." Erin S., Alberta"My best decision was choosing SODC. I did a lot of researching before choosing the school for me. It was a big decision as I had to make the move from PEI not only for myself but with my 4 year old daughter; everything I chose was to better her life and mine. I always knew the dental field was my passion. As soon as I chose SODC, speaking with staff and even coming to see the building, I knew this was it! We were pushed to our potential and we succeeded without a doubt. I couldn't have done it without all the support of our amazing teachers and the staff! I want to thank SODC for everything you have helped me to accomplish!" Jamie T., PEI
